Where is TGS Located?
The Greene School is Rhode Island's first Expeditionary Learning Charter High School! We currently serve students from grades 9-12 in beautiful West Greenwich, RI.
The Greene School is a college bound high school that offers a rigorous academic program within a personalized learning environment. We prepare all students for success in college and beyond as well as focus on helping students understand their role as environmental stewards.
We have been at our current location on John Potter Road since our founding year in 2010, and as we continue to grow, we continue to expand our space. We currently occupy two buildings at this location and are excited to be using various off-site facilities this 2012-2013 school year so our students can immerse themselves in weekly off-campus learning experiences.
While we enjoy and appreciate the beauty of our rural campus, we also know that our students hail from 19 different school districts throughout Rhode Island, encompassing rural, suburban and urban communities. We are excited that our students are able to travel to different sites throughout the school year that embody the same diversity that our student body shares.
2012: A 9th-12th Grade High School
The Greene School opened our doors in September of 2010, serving students throughout Rhode Island in grades 9 and 10. We began with a small student body of 84 students at that time, along with an AMAZING and dedicated staff of professionals. This was a wonderful year when we were able to build our founding community and establish academic and school norms that have carried us through to our success today. We affectionately refer to the families that started with us as our "pioneer families", who trusted us with their children and helped to make us the strong, thriving, academic community we are today.
We have grown to a full 9th-12th grade high school this 2012-2013 school year and are excited to be seeing our first senior student body graduate in the Spring of 2013.
The Greene school currently serves 168 students, and during our 2013-2014 school year, we will reach our full enrollment of 210 students in the 9th-12th grades.
Looking Toward the Future
The Greene School is growing! We are thrilled to have experienced tremendous growth at The Greene School. We continue to have each of our grades filled with students and have a considerable waiting list for admission into each of our grades.
One of our initial goals when founding The Greene School was to offer a unique education within the context of a small community of students. Though our total number of students will not exceed 210, each year we continue to need additional space to provide the type of learning experiences intrinsic to an Expeditionary Learning school.
Plans are underway, and we are thrilled to be planning for a Sustainable Learning Center on the W. Alton Jones campus of URI. Our next step will be to have our own campus housed in the same location.
