News from Miss Fontes...
I hope you and your family had a restful summer and are ready for a new school year. I would like to start our fall season with a few tidbits of information that might be interesting to our juniors and seniors. Please watch for periodic emails from me with timely information, such as scholarship opportunities for students.
Drivers Education – Drivers Education is offered at various locations throughout the state by CCRI. For more information about the program, please go to http://www.ccri.edu/cwce/dred/
SAT Prep Courses – Several people have inquired about SAT Prep classes in the area. Below are listed some resources that you might want to check out. The classes are different prices and meet in different locations. I do not endorse any particular program but am listing the organizations for your reference:
http://www.ccri.edu/cwce/pdfs/CWCE%20fall%202013.pdf (Look on page 21 in the CCRI Center for Workforce Development catalog. They offer SAT prep classes in Lincoln and Warwick.)
SAT – Most juniors take the SAT in May or June of 11th grade and then again in the fall of their senior year. SAT’s are offered at various high schools throughout the state. Students can register online at www.collegeboard.com The school code for The Greene School is 400254
ACT – Most colleges accept the SAT or the ACT for college admissions. While the SAT is an aptitude test measuring reasoning and verbal abilities, the ACT is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. Some students do better on one test than the other. If students are interested in taking this test, please register online at www.actstudent.org
2013-2014 College Representatives on Campus – Several colleges are coming on campus to recruit our students. Juniors and seniors are able to meet with these representatives during Crew. Interested students should sign up with Miss Fontes in guidance to attend the sessions. Below is a list of colleges that have already scheduled to come to The Greene School. There will be more added in the future.
“I wanted to let you all know about some exciting opportunities that are coming up for our seniors. The Greene School has begun to schedule college representatives to come to our campus to meet with our seniors. Most of the representatives that will be presenting to our students will be the admissions person who will be reviewing and deciding upon our students' admission status! Therefore, this is a great way for our students to make a significant impression on these admissions officers!!!
Students will be instructed to sign up for the college visits in guidance and will be issued a pass to attend. Students are responsible for all work that they miss in their class if they attend a college presentation. Students should check with their teachers prior to the presentation to find out if it is feasible to miss a portion of class. I anticipate that the college presentations will be about 30 minutes in length. Please come see me if you have any questions." Ms. Fontes
